A PET CT scan (Positron Emission Tomography – Computed Tomography) is the most advanced cancer imaging technology available today. It combines two scans in one: PET imaging shows how your body's cells are functioning at a metabolic level, while CT imaging shows detailed anatomy. Together, they can detect cancer earlier and more accurately than either scan alone — often identifying disease that a regular CT or MRI would miss.
Before the scan, a small amount of radioactive glucose (FDG) is injected. Because cancer cells consume glucose faster than normal cells, they light up on the PET scan — revealing the exact location, size, and activity of tumours anywhere in the body in a single examination.
