PET CT Scan in Delhi — What is It?

A PET CT scan combines two powerful imaging technologies in a single session. PET (Positron Emission Tomography) captures metabolic activity at the cellular level — showing how organs and tissues are functioning. CT (Computed Tomography) provides precise anatomical detail — showing the size, shape and location of abnormalities. Together, they give your oncologist or physician a complete picture that neither scan can provide alone.

Adhiraj Imaging is one of Delhi's leading PET CT centres, equipped with an AERB-approved cyclotron facility and staffed by experienced nuclear medicine specialists. Our competitive pricing and efficient process attract patients from across North India — from UP, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and beyond.

Pre-scan requirement: 6 hours fasting mandatory. Blood sugar must be below 200 mg/dL. Diabetic patients must inform us when booking. Bring doctor's prescription, previous reports and medical history.

Types of PET CT Scans Available

FDG PET CT (Fluorodeoxyglucose)

The most common PET CT. Uses glucose tracer to detect hypermetabolic cancer cells, infections, and brain/heart disorders. Suitable for all solid tumors.

From ₹7,500 (Whole Body)

PSMA PET CT (Prostate Cancer)

Ga-68 PSMA PET CT — highly specific for prostate cancer detection, staging and restaging. Far superior sensitivity compared to conventional imaging.

From ₹18,000

DOTANOC / DOTATATE PET CT

Somatostatin receptor PET CT for neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), carcinoid, paraganglioma. Ga-68 DOTA radiolabelled peptides.

From ₹20,000

NaF PET CT (Bone Scan)

Sodium Fluoride PET CT — far superior bone metastasis detection vs traditional bone scan (Tc-99m). Ideal for prostate, breast, lung cancer staging.

From ₹12,000

FDG PET CT (Brain / Cardiac)

Brain FDG PET for Alzheimer's, epilepsy, tumor vs radiation necrosis. Cardiac viability assessment for IHD.

From ₹8,000

FAPI PET CT

Fibroblast activation protein inhibitor — newer tracer for detecting cancers with low FDG uptake. Hepatocellular carcinoma, sarcoma, diffuse gastric cancer.

Why PET CT Scan is Done

  • Cancer Detection: Initial detection of tumours and distinguishing malignant from benign lesions
  • Cancer Staging: Determining extent of spread — local, regional lymph nodes or distant metastasis
  • Treatment Response: Assessing whether chemotherapy or radiation therapy is working — mid-treatment evaluation
  • Cancer Recurrence: Early detection of relapse after surgery or treatment, even before conventional CT shows changes
  • Radiation Treatment Planning: Accurate delineation of tumour for IMRT/SBRT radiotherapy planning
  • Cardiac Viability: Assessing viable heart muscle before bypass surgery or stenting
  • Neurological Disorders: Alzheimer's, frontal lobe dementia, intractable epilepsy focus localisation

How to Prepare for PET CT Scan

1

Fasting — 6 Hours Required

Do not eat or drink anything except plain water for at least 6 hours before your appointment. Avoid sugary drinks, juices, tea or coffee with sugar.

2

Blood Sugar Check on Arrival

Arrive 30 minutes early. We check your blood glucose — it must be below 200 mg/dL for FDG PET CT to proceed. Diabetic patients: follow your doctor's medication advice and inform us at booking.

3

Tracer Injection

A very small amount of radiotracer (FDG or other) is injected intravenously. The injection is painless. You then rest quietly in a comfortable reclining chair for 45–60 minutes while the tracer distributes.

4

PET CT Scan (30–40 minutes)

You lie on the scanner table and the combined PET-CT machine acquires images from head to thigh (whole body) or specific region. You must lie still. The procedure is completely painless.

5

Post-Scan Instructions

Drink plenty of water to help flush the tracer from your body. Avoid close contact with pregnant women and children under 5 for 6–8 hours after the scan.

6

Report Delivery

PET CT reports are prepared by our nuclear medicine specialist and radiologist. Reports available in 4–6 hours, sent via WhatsApp, email and physical copy.
